20 Meters SHUTTLE RUN – Certificate of Performance
The Leger 20 Meters Shuttle Run is an aerobic fitness test in which you run back and forth between two marked lines 20 meters apart, keeping pace with recorded audio signals.
At the start of the test, the pace is a slow jog. With each successive stage, the time between audio signals decreases, requiring you to gradually increase your running speed. The audio recording announces the stage level as the test progresses.
During each shuttle, you must reach the warning line, positioned 2 meters before each 20-metre end line, before the audio signal sounds.
An examiner will caution you if you fail to reach the warning line in time. The test will end when you:
-
Miss two consecutive warning lines, or
-
Reach Stage 7.0
To successfully meet the minimum aerobic fitness requirement, candidates must achieve Stage 7.0.
Please note:
-
The Shuttle Run will be stopped at Level 9.0 for all candidates during testing.
-
Levels 8.0 and 9.0 are available only as a personal performance challenge.
-
Level 7.0 is the minimum standard for applicants applying to most Ontario Police Services.
