FIT to be a Correctional Officer!
The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services (MCSCS) Fitness Test for Ontario Correctional Officer Applicants (FITCO) is a bona fide occupational test used to assess a person's ability to perform the physical demands of correctional officer work. The FITCO was developed over a two-year period by experts in the areas of corrections, fitness, human rights and diversity to ensure that it is culturally inclusive, gender neutral, valid and transparent Bona Fide Occupational Requirement for Correctional Officers. The development of the FITCO was based on a comprehensive scientific process.
The FITCO effectively identifies those individuals who possess the minimal physical abilities needed to meet the demands of the correctional officer position. The FITCO is used in the selection process of Correctional Officer applicants, and as part of the graduating criteria for cadets at the Correctional Officer Training and Assessment (COTA) program at the Ontario Correctional Services College.
There are four (4) separate components to the FITCO: a screening component to ensure your medical readiness and three performance components to assess your physical capability:
1. Search Station
2. Emergency Response Circuit and
3 Aerobic Shuttle Run
POLICE FIT CANADA is accredited to assess the FITCO and provides testing services for the Fitness Test for Ontario Correctional Officer Applicants.
